When Sir Archibald Wavell assumed command of the British forces in North Africa in WWII, his mission was to keep Egypt from falling to the Axis, and giving Hitler access to the Red Sea and the oil-rich Persian Gulf. Because of Wavell's limited resources, he decided attack was the best form of defense. Wavell's brilliant campaign succeeded in routing Marshal Rodolto Graziani's Italian forces, but the exhilarating victory was short-lived--until Rommel and his Afrika Korps entered the conflict in early 1941. This volume is part of a three-volume study of the Desert War between 1940 and 1943. It tells how Wavell and his general, O'Connor, despite being outnumbered, routed Graziani's forces, pushing the Italians back hundreds of miles and taking thousands of prisoners. 332pp, photos mid-section, just too much over 500g for post so why not add another book to the bag & use up that postage.
