302 crisp pp, 800g for post. The Trench recreates in extraordinary detail the experience of day-to-day life for soldiers during the First World War. Volunteers were recruited from the streets of Hull - exactly as the Hull Pals (the nickname of the 10th Battalion of the East Yorkshire Regiment) were recruited in 1914. After training at Catterick barracks they were taken to a carefully reconstructed trench in northern France where they followed wartime routines and underwent the everyday privations that their forefathers endured. Based on many hours of original research and interviews with surviving veterans, it offers an entirely new insight into the experience of the Great War. Illustrated throughout with period photographs and drawings.
