2 Allen, Traudi John Perceval
Melbourne Melbourne University Press 1992 Papeback Good None Issued 28.5cm
Attractively illustrated book which describes why John Perceval has earned a place in the front rank of Australia's leading painters. This book on Perceval's painting, surveys his career from the early years to the present and traces diverse influences on his work. Traudi Allen places Perceval's work in the context of its time. She explores the significance of the artist's friendship with Arthur Boyd, Sidney Nolan, Clifton Pugh, Fred Williams and others, and his marriage to Mary Boyd. She identifies his role in the revolutionary 1940s decade in Melbourne and shows how those years and those friendships helped to shape his art. The result of extensive research, this book brings together a representative selection of Perceval's paintings, from public and private collections -- many of them reproduced here for the first time. A "catalogue raisonne" enables the reader to trace Perceval's career from the teenager of 1937 to the artist of stature of 1980s. Dmpness has affected the top right hand corner "flatness" of the pages and this reflected in the low price. 900g 185pp, French flaps.

17 Crumb, Robert The Sweeter Side of R Crumb
MQ 2006 Hardcover Very Good Good 28.5cm
The Sweeter Side of R Crumb is just that. Away with his 'reputation', this book illuminates a side that few see. The pages are filled with diverse images from musical legends to landscapes, to self portraits. The beauty of the images lies not in their execution necessarily, but rather the stories behind them. Some commentary describes the significance of the art, while other images do not need any editorial, letting the art or the dialogue carry it. review >>> A wonderful, but different addition for your Crumb collection. unpaginated but about 120 all crispy white, approx 900g packed for post
