The complete titling > The Three Famous Voyages of Captain James Cook round the world narrating his discoveries and adventures in Tierra del Fuego, Tahiti, New Zealand, Van Diemen's Land, Australia, The Friendli Islands, new Hebrides, New Caledonia, The Sandwich Islands, Western North America, etc., together with the account of his murder at Hawaii, and the subsequent voyage of Captain King to Kamtschatka, Japan, and China. with numerous full-page illustrations and engravings in the text. Description > there is a date in script atop the first page "Oct 6 1898 (though the final 8 could be a 5 or a 6), the first two pp have insect damage & foxing, the head & tail of the spine have wear as do the outer corners, the bottom corners more so (see photos). At pp 184/185 there is dramatic separation into two text blocks & the larger section is separated from the spine, hence the substantially different price to copies of a similar vintage. Much of the book is Cook's authorship but as yet I can't attribute the other, possibly Low or Wharton?.
