UK Michael Joseph 1994 Hardcover Very Good Good 24 Cm
At the time of her death in 1992 David was working on this epic study of the use of ice, the ice-trade and the early days of refrigeration, which was published posthumously in 1994 as Harvest of the Cold Months.‘An awe-inspiring feat of detective scholarship, the literally marvellous story of how human beings came to ingest lumps of flavoured frozen matter for pleasure' Independent on Sunday‘This survey of the use of ice in cookery takes us on a fascinating journey from 1581, where in Florence they put snow in the wine glasses, to that modern phenomenon, the growth of the ice-cream business. A scholarly social history, which makes a fitting finale to the work of the greatest of our writers on foods and its contexts.' 6 Fraser, George MacDonald Flashman and the Dragon
London Collins Harvill 1985 1st Edition Hardcover Very Good/Good Very Good 22.5cm
Unclipped dj, 320 pp. & a touch under 500g. Faults? upper right corner of about 10 pp has been turned (we have a nicer copy) Flashman and the Dragon is a 1985 novel by George MacDonald Fraser. It is the eighth of the Flashman novels. Presented within the frame of the supposedly discovered historical Flashman Papers, this book describes the bully Flashman from Tom Brown's School Days. The papers are attributed to Flashman, who is not only the bully featured in Thomas Hughes' novel, but also a well-known Victorian military hero. The book begins with an explanatory note detailing the discovery of these papers. The present novel takes place shortly after Flashman's service with John Brown in the United States (detailed in Flashman and the Angel of the Lord). There is no explanation as to how he ends up in Hong Kong, but it is from here that he begins his adventures in China. Flashman meets both the leaders of the Taiping Rebellion and members of the Qing Dynasty who resisted the British march to Peking in 1860 - part of the Second Opium War. Wikipedia will fill in the rest for you.

11 George Macdonald Fraser Flashman on the March
London Harper Collins Publishers 2005 Hardcover Excellent/Very Good Excellent/very Good 24 Cm Signed by Author
First Edition, 750g packed for posting, 317pp of text, then biblio info, map/illust endpapers. 8vo. original burgundy textured paper boards, gilt titling on spine, vg dustwrapper (upper right corners a little bumped. dj unclipped. Author signature on a paste-in on the title page (sticker COA on cover), signature alone, no inscription. The book's plot >>> A reluctant military hero, Flashman plays a key part in most of the defining military campaigns of the 19th century, despite trying his utmost to escape them all. Many have marvelled at General Napier's daring 1868 expedition through the treacherous peaks and bottomless chasms of Abyssinia to rescue a small group of British citizens held captive by the mad tyrant Emperor Theodore. But the vital role of Sir Harry Flashman, V.C., in the success of this campaign has hitherto gone unrecorded. Flashman's undeserved reputation for heroism renders him the British Army's candidate of choice when it comes to skulking behind enemy lines in Ali Baba attire. After all, who but the great amorist could contemplate navigating a land populated by hostile tribes and the loveliest (and most savage) women in Africa, from leather-clad nymphs with a penchant for torture to a voluptuous barbarian queen with a reputation for throwing disobliging guests to her pet lions?
