10 Duncan, Roger F Dorothy Elizabeth : Building a Traditional Wooden Schooner
NY W. W. Norton & Company 200 Hardcover Excellent Good 22cm
From the dust jacket: "This is the story of Dorothy Elizabeth, a 28-foot schooner. Particularly, it is the story of why to build a traditional wooden sailing vessel that relies on age-old methods and materials, yet also embraces newfangled technologies. But mostly it is the story of the people--the score of craftsmen and craftswomen, friends, and family--who give their skill, advice, support, and time to turn Dorothy Elizabeth from an idea into a graceful, seaworthy reality. You will meet Ralph Stanley of Southwest Harbor, Maine, one of the world's great designers and builders of traditional wooden boats, and a disarmingly plainspoken master craftsmen in the maritime Maine tradition. You will meet Mary Chandler Duncan, a poet and the author's wife, soul mate, and first mate. You will meet Nat Wilson, sail maker, who took time out from building topsails for the USS Constitution to build sails for Dorothy Elizabeth. You will meet Frank Luke, neighbor, boatyard owner, all-around helper, and the man who launched Dorothy Elizabeth. And you will meet many other singular people up and down the coast from Portland, Maine, to Lunnenberg, Nova Scotia and beyond, drawn together by the building of a boat. 240 pages, slight mark on dj

11 E W Murphy (ed) Official Souvenir Programme Australian Tour of the MCC Team 1954-55
Sydney NSW Cricket Association 1954 Stapled Fair/good 18cm
For cricket fans we have this neat little Souvenir Programme of the Australian Tour 1954-55. 96 pp with an ad for Stamina slacks at the rear cover, ah, those were the days. Authorised by the NSW Cricket Assoc, printed by Bridge Printery in Reservoir St, Sydney. Contnts are listed as programme of matches, photos of players, score sheets, cricket records, items of interest and an etc. Faults? The page that has an ad for Tooheys Flag Ale has pencilled scribble & a rip (maybe a Reschs drinker??), the page that has an ad for balls is also scribbled on, 2 of the scoring pp have pencil scribble, one scoring page has red pencil numbers & its facing page has fountain pen notes & numbers about . . .(wait for it). . betting!!Shock-horror!!Another two scoring pp actually have cricket scores/data entered. There's some stains on some of the pages (Reschs or tea, who knows). So in summary it's not for someone who wants a mint copy, it's more for someone who'll appreciate the flavour of the times & will show it to mates when they come around for a BBQ & a chat. I think it's got a certain sporty charisma.

12 Ferencsik, Robert, Will Neptune The Fundamentals of Fine Woodworking
Sterling Publishing Co Inc 1996 Softcover Very Good - Good None issued 25 Cm
Sterling Publishing Company, 1996 - 192 pages It takes more than power tools to make a fine woodworker. To become a competent woodworker, you must first understand the material -- its strengths, weaknesses, and general characteristics. Second, become aware of what you need to manipulate the wood -- how hard it is to cut and how sharp your tools have to be. And finally, formulate a cohesive plan before you begin your project. Basic lessons and exercises will teach you appreciation of your tools, what their capabilities are, what you need to do to prepare them, and how it feels to use them to their full potential. In this way, you'll begin to value the tremendous interplay between mind and body that makes the shapes appear. Once you see what you're capable of achieving manually, you will be able to set standards for power tool performance. This guidebook, laid out in a clear, sequential manner, is an essential reference for all woodworkers. Faults? small repaired tear at foot of cover

14 H. Easom Smith Bantams for Everyone
UK Saiga Publishing Co 1979 Hardcover Excellent Excellent 23.5cm
184 clean white well-bound pp incl. index. very good dj, Illustrated throughout. Here's an extract of Mr Easom Smith's notes re judging > The wording of the Standards is lengthy and appears to be very complicated. So much so that many people never read through to the end. If the Standards were carefully digested, it would be found that the scale of points makes greatest allowance for facial merit and type, allied with characteristic carriage. Colour does not rank so very highly, after all. Thus it is impossible for a superbly coloured bantam to win the first prize if it is deficient in other details. But it is possible for a bird of fair average colour to win if it has the best of type and head points. Once this essential is grasped, the breed immediately appeals to the man who likes diminutive, cocky pieces of beauty in his bantam pens and does not much care whether they lay eggs except when he wants to reproduce their like in springtime. Enoy a peruse of this book whilst sipping a dry white & maybe the soundtrack of "Chicken Run" in the background. 184pp in jolly nice order by one of the foremost experts on exhibition poultry, this is a book for those who love their poultry. Topics relating to bantams include housing systems, accommodation to aid prizewinning, feeding methods under modern conditions, breeding pens, conditioning birds, washing, and grooming.
